How to Assemble a Global Truss GT1476 Ground Support System (14.76 ft Towers + 15.72 ft x 15.72 ft Top Truss)

Introduction

Welcome to FamousStages.com, your go-to destination for high-quality stage truss systems, ground support structures, and professional production gear. Today, we’ll guide you step by step through the assembly of a Global Truss GT1476 Ground Support System, built with four 14.76 ft towers and a 15.72 ft x 15.72 ft adjustable top truss.

This structure is perfect for concerts, trade shows, corporate events, and productions where safety, durability, and adjustability are key. Let’s get started!

Materials Used

4X GT1476 Ground-Support-System 14.76 ft (each tower includes):

  • 1X 44BS-1 – Ground Support Base

  • 4X GT-492145-1 – Outrigger with Stabilizer Arm

  • 1X GT-BLOCK – Sleeve Block

  • 1X GT-TOP/CM – Top for Chain Motor

  • 2X SHACKLE 5/8 – 5/8-inch Steel Shackles (Max Load 3-1/4 Tons)

  • 1X WIREROPE9 – 9 ft Round Sling with Aircraft Cable Inside

  • 2X HINGE/M12-L/88MM – Left 88mm Hinge for Ground Support System

  • 2X HINGE/M12-R/88MM – Right 88mm Hinge for Ground Support System

  • 1X Global Truss F34 12" Aluminum Box Truss – 1.64 ft

  • 1X Global Truss F34 12" Aluminum Box Truss – 13.12 ft

Horizontal Trusses (Top Grid):

  • 4X Global Truss F34 12" Aluminum Box Truss – 13.12 ft (to form a 15.72 ft x 15.72 ft square top)

Optional (Currently Out of Stock):

  • 1 Ton Manual Chain Hoist (30 ft) or Electric Chain Hoist

Step 1: Preparing the Ground Support Bases

  1. Lay out the four 44BS-1 bases in a square configuration measuring roughly 15.72 ft x 15.72 ft.

  2. Ensure the bases are level, stable, and positioned correctly.

  3. Attach the outriggers with stabilizer arms (GT-492145-1) to each base. These provide essential balance and safety.

Step 2: Building the Towers

  1. Insert a 1.64 ft Global Truss Box Truss vertically into each base.

  2. Slide the GT-Sleeve Block over the 1.64 ft truss so it can move freely up and down later.

  3. Attach the hinges (HINGE/M12-L/88MM and HINGE/M12-R/88MM) on top of the 1.64 ft truss.

  4. Secure a 13.12 ft Global Truss Box Truss above the hinges, locking it into place. This creates the full 14.76 ft tower height with the pivot point for safe erection.

  5. Mount the GT-TOP/CM (Top for Chain Motor) on top of each vertical truss.

Now, each tower is:
Base → 1.64 ft truss → hinges → 13.12 ft truss → sleeve block → top for chain motor.

Step 3: Assembling the Top Horizontal Truss Grid

  1. On the ground, use four 13.12 ft F34 trusses as sides in a square.

    • Each side = 13.12 ft.  These are connected to the four corners of the GT-Blocks-Sleeve Blocks(1.3 ft square blocks each.)

    • Total square size = 15.72 ft x 15.72 ft (with Sleeve Blocks as connectors).

  2. Use conical couplers, pins, and safety clips to ensure secure, load-rated connections.

  3. This square grid will be lifted later to sit at the top with the four sleeve blocks.

Step 4: Attaching the Horizontal Trusses to the Towers

  1. Position the horizontal truss grid near the bases of the towers.

  2. Connect each 13.12 ft Box Truss to the GT-Sleeve Block on each tower.

  3. Ensure all four sleeve blocks are properly pinned to the corners of the truss grid.

Step 5: Lifting the Structure

  1. Normally, a 1 Ton Manual or Electric Chain Hoist (30 ft) would be used to lift the top grid. (Currently out of stock, but must be factored into your future setup).

  2. The hoists attach to the GT-TOP/CM at each tower.

  3. Carefully raise the horizontal top grid to the desired working height.

  4. Once raised, lock the sleeve blocks into place with the proper safety pins.

Step 6: Final Stabilization & Safety Checks

  1. Adjust the outriggers and stabilizer arms until each tower is solid and stable.

  2. Double-check all pins, clips, hinges, shackles, and sling connections.

  3. Ensure the entire system is square, level, and properly balanced.

  4. Inspect for any loose fittings or misaligned hardware before loading lights, speakers, or video walls.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you’ve successfully assembled a Global Truss GT1476 Ground Support System with four 14.76 ft towers and a 15.72 ft x 15.72 ft adjustable top truss. This setup delivers a strong, versatile, and professional-grade foundation for any production — from live concerts and DJ stages to trade show booths and convention displays.
